Grameenphone Ltd. is the largest mobile telecommunications operator in Bangladesh in terms of revenue, coverage and subscriber base. The company was incorporated on 10 October 1996 as a private limited company. Grameenphone converted to a public limited company on 25 June 2007. The company became stock listed and started its trading at Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges from 16 November 2009. The shareholding structure comprises of mainly two sponsor Shareholders namely Telenor Mobile Communications AS (55.80%) and Grameen Telecom (34.20%). The rest 10.00% shareholding includes General public & other Institutions.
Banglalink Digital Communications Ltd. is the second largest telecom service provider in Bangladesh. Since its inception in 2005, the company is successfully catering the market niches with unique and economic products offering. It started business under the brand name ‘Banglalink’ in 2005 and now the Russian telecom giant VimpelCom is the parent company of Banglalink. It is growing everyday from the day it started its business in Bangladesh. Now, it has over 29 million subscribers all over the world and the company provides services like 3G, Value added services, Mobile financial services and so on. Currently it has market share of 26% among all the telecom companies. The third part will give an idea regarding major treasury functions those are conducted in Banglalink. The next part of the report shows an analysis on the financial performance of Banglalink over the past years and there was a comparison made between Banglalink and its counterpart Grameenphone based on the financial performance of the company. The first merger of Bangladesh’s telecom sector has come into effect with the beginning of the operation of Robi Axiata Limited as the merged company on November 16, 2016. Following the merger of Robi and Airtel, the merged company is now known as Robi Axiata Limited.

MS-Bangladesh was established in 1988 in Chittagong following a survey by Marie Stopes International (MSI) that highlighted the need for a high quality family planning service in the region. It started its journey with a modest clinic financed by the UK’s then Overseas Development Administration Joint Funding Scheme. This clinic soon became very successful due to its client focus, high quality services, and innovative marketing. Within three years, approximately 500 clients were being seen each month, and the clinic was well on the way to financial sustainability. By 1995, MS had firmly established itself as a high quality service provider and as a result was awarded a large bilateral grant by the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID). Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) was established in 1972 by order of the President as an Autonomous Body under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOH&FW). The BMRC is the focal point for Health Research, that identifies problems and issues relating to medical and health sciences and to determine priority areas in research on the basis of health care needs, goals, policies, and objectives. The Mission of the Council is to create effective and quality health care facilities for the whole population of the Country by promoting health research through strengthening of research facilities, training and dissemination of research results. The main activities of the Council include: organization and promotion of scientific research in various fields of Health Science, training of human resource in the field of health research and dissemination of research results for proper utilization. For more than 50 years, icddr,b has been a beacon of high-quality research in South Asia. It has led research that has saved millions of lives (see timeline/box). From its origins as a centre specializing in diarrhoeal diseases, it is now an internationally recognized centre of excellence across a wide range of conditions. icddr,b has established a comprehensive programme of research, with particular strengths in infectious disease and vaccinology, reproductive health, neonatal and child health, malnutrition and food security, and other areas. Our scientific workforce comprising of nearly 200 scientifically trained staff is organized into ten Centres focusing on key health issues. HIV/AIDS and STD Alliance Bangladesh (HASAB) is one of the national, leading Non Government Organizations (NGOs) in Bangladesh devoted in the field on HIV/AIDS/STI for the past twelve years. It emerged as a specialized agency in HIV/AIDS & STI field with experience of grant management and capacity building (technical, managerial and administrative) of smaller NGOs, and CBOs and Faith based organizations that are involved in prevention & control and care & support of HIV/AIDS. Throughout its work, HASAB promotes the rights and participation of people living with or affected by HIV, as well as those who are socially excluded. HASAB have also been working to widen their scope to include broader areas of health, poverty, human rights, environment, ICT, social business and other areas of social development.
